One Thought: Less Screen Time

One of my thought’s this week has been spending less time on the laptop or mobile phone. Technology has become a significant part of our life — everything is pretty much done online. And although, there are many benefits to the technologies that we use today, such as the countless hours of informative videos on YouTube, and thousands of articles on Medium, there are some problems as well. Back pain and eye strain, just to name some.

But what would life be like if I reduced my screen time? I had thought about how I could go about implementing a plan to reduce screen time, and only using my devices when necessary. But as I was thinking of the different ways I could reduce screen time, I reflected about the question I was asking myself.

It’s not, how can I reduce screen time on a day-to-day basis? But more so a question of, what productive activities do I see myself doing that requires minimal or no use of a screen?

One Quote “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right” Henry Ford

During lockdown, gyms, and ice rinks (I play ice hockey) have been shut down. I have taken up running to take its place.

One thing I have learned from running (and all other sports) is the importance of the mental game. As running is an individual activity, it’s all on you! You don’t heave a team member to sub in, or someone to take your place.

What I found with running is that it’s easy to undermine our ability to go that extra mile.

One Lesson: Start small

Today, I had a few reasons not to write — it’s a long weekend, the weather is nice, your body hurts, you had a rough morning, give yourself a break.

As I contemplated about this in bed, I remembered the importance of starting small.

Even if it means writing a few sentences.

Thanks for reading!

Until next time.
